Digital Graphic Designer
Happy Cog Philadelphia Full-Time
Description

We create some of the most visually inspiring and highly usable web experiences for a dream roster of clients you’ve probably heard of: Zappos, AIGA, Georgetown University, Nintendo, and MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art), to name a few.
The Role
Happy Cog’s Philadelphia office is seeking a full-time graphic designer to join our talented team. You’ll be responsible for bringing digital experiences to life for organizations large and small. To qualify, you must:
- Provide an inspiring portfolio that displays your mastery of interface design for both desktop and mobile experiences
- Have a few years of working in an agency environment under your belt
- Be comfortable working with documents like wireframes and page description diagrams, and will collaborate with UX professionals to evolve their initial ideas and concepts—you care about information design and strategy and want to be an active participant in their creation
- Possess a self-motivated desire to share your knowledge and experience with the web design community (hint: You must aspire to speak, teach, and/or write for our blog, Cognition)
The Skills: A “Design-First” Role
Some front-end coding experience would give you a leg up on other candidates, but it wouldn’t be your day-to-day responsibility. You must be a Photoshop perfectionist. Designing to a grid is like breathing for you. Conversely, you love thinking “blue-sky” conceptually about your work as much as designing well-balanced layouts. Therefore, you understand that designing for CMS-driven websites are more about crafting extensible design systems than designing individual pages.
Heavy on the Communication
Whether it’s participating in a sketching exercise at a project kick-off meeting or explaining a design rationale in Basecamp, everybody at Happy Cog spends ample time interacting with other humans. The ability to clearly articulate your design decisions to both colleagues and clients is a crucial must-have.
You Love What You Do, and Want to Learn More
Have a love of design-related stuff beyond the screen? Even better! Our projects occasionally involve identity design, photography shoots, and creating style guides for evolving brands. To put it mildly, a love of design should be in your blood and part of what makes you, you.
Job Perks
401(k) with company matching, generous PTO account, your own discretionary professional budget, excellent healthcare coverage, insurance benefits.
